Chamber Update | Severna Park

By Liz League | CEO, GSPACC

We warmly welcome our newest members: CW Technologies, Crofton Yoga and Three Characters LLC. Thank you to our innovative members for giving us “Chamber Strong!”

Our wellness committee presented “Creating a Work/Life Balance When Care for a Loved One with Alzheimer’s” with guest speaker Ellen Torres, program director of the Alzheimer’s Association of Greater Maryland. Ellen gave valuable advice on coping with this difficult life situation.

Our monthly in-room cookout was sponsored by the SPACC Business Builders Group. This 30-member group meets weekly to build relationships, provide referrals, and support each other. In addition to the members of the group, a special thanks goes to Bruster’s Real Ice Cream for providing dessert, Leave dinner to Lettie for the delicious salad and baked beans, and Pam Negron from the Negron Farmers Insurance Agency for the freshly popped corn.

On Monday September 27th we held our annual Driving Force for Business golf tournament in beautiful Chartwell golf and country club. The weather was perfect and the greens were in great shape for this sold out event. The tournament was sponsored by the amazing Live! Casino and hotel.

Golfers were treated to Chick-fil-A breakfast sandwiches on arrival and enjoyed libations at the Matt Wyble Team of Century 21 New Millennium catering tent. In the afternoon, the game started with a “shotgun” start, and as golfers made the rounds, they enjoyed snacks from sponsors Bank of Glen Burnie and Afternoon DermSpa and drinks from sponsors PERSICO Asset Management and SERVPRO of Annapolis/Severna Park. Freshly grilled hot dogs were provided by Emerald financial partners, and ice cream and beer Fellner Legal Service. Around the corner was the Trusted management tent that offers more libations.

Special holes included the longest drive, closest to the pin, best overall (first, second, and third), and the putting game.

Chick-fil-A provided his giant inflatable cow on the driving range before a competition and offered 15 sandwiches to each winner who “beat the cow”. M&T Bank had a close-to-the-pin game and gave away an autographed football from a Ravens player.

Wilkins Buick sponsored a hole-in-one competition where a new car was presented to the winner. Not a lucky person this year, but one day someone will score!

Eagle sponsors included Alexander Animal Hospital, KMA Law Office, Steak n’ Shake, Garry’s Grill, Moran Insurance, Rosso Commercial Real Estate and Chick-fil-A. Sponsoring the four photos was Barranco . Funeral and Cremation Services, and the photographer was Laura Weigmann from Laura’s Eyes Photography. Our drawing sponsor was Signarama, Glen Burnie, and our goodie bag sponsor was Bernward Construction Mechanical. Par sponsors included Severna Park Lanes, Griswold Thuiszorg, Arundel Federal Savings Bank, Broadleaf Tobacco and the Severna Park community center.

Monumental roofing sponsored the pro shot, where golfers could purchase the option to use a shot from the pro instead of their own. The proceeds benefited the Annapolis Wellness House, a nonprofit organization that helps people living with cancer. More than $1,500 was raised during the tournament, and Monumental roofing a matching donation.

Fantastic volunteers, including Tommy Sommers from LogoZone Promotions, Crystal and Robert Gazic from Severn Bank, Lou Facciponti from Lighthouse Insurance, Faith Brandt from Mid-Atlantic Settlement Services, Selby Scaggs from MWE partnership, Dana Eckert from The Bank of Glen Burnie and Kevin Murnane from SERVPRO.

Thanks to Chartwell for making a fantastic event that everyone enjoyed!

Congratulations to the winners of the tournament:

First place – The speech media

Second place – Charter financial services

Third place – Moran Insurance

A ribbon cutting was held for SPAN as a recipient of a new veranda roof from Monumental roofing. What a great example of a local business supporting a community organization helping those in need.

In September, a ribbon was cut on the occasion of the opening of JB’s, Severna Park. Owner Don Kelly told us about his vision to create a place for families to enjoy, and the restaurant has 44 TVs to watch so many sports. We are so happy with this new location in our community!

A successful multi-room Women in Business was held in: yellowfin tuna. The keynote speaker was Linda Penkala, author of a book on women’s heart health. Many thanks to Jennifer McAndrews from Synergy Home Care for sponsoring the event.

There are plans for our upcoming Shoptoberfest, which will be held in Park Plaza on October 23 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. We have entertainment, a costume contest for children under 10 and dogs, a photo booth, games and much more. Come out for a fun afternoon and meet the local entrepreneurs who make this the best place to live, work and play!

Visit as always for more information about the room and our activities. You can also email me at [email protected] or call 410-647-3900.
