Hartlepool roofing firm donates back-to-school packs as part of charity project

Mr Findley and his team at Hartlepool-based Findley Roofing teamed up to produce a total of 60 packs – each containing primary school supplies such as stationery, a water bottle and a clothing voucher.

He decided to put the packs together because the end of summer vacation can be a testing time for many parents as they scramble to get the gear and clothing needed for the new school year.

He said: “As many of us will know, none of this is cheap. We want to provide the parents of students of Blackhall Primary with much needed help.

Some of the items were donated by Hartlepool businessman Grant Findley.

Mr Findley started the #Kool4Skool project after reflecting on his own childhood.

He said: “My mother was a lonely parent who worked day and night to raise the three of us on Tyneside.

“She did so much for us and gave us everything, but I still felt a little sad at the beginning of the school year when I saw a lot of other kids with their brand new gear.”

After careful consideration and much discussion, the team chose a school in the region and contacted Blackhall Primary School.

Mr Findley said it was a difficult choice to make as he believes all schools, students and families in the community deserve a helping hand, but a final decision had to be made.”

He personally delivered the packages to the school and was delighted to have the opportunity to meet the staff.

In addition, he was able to talk to some children who will benefit from the #Kool4Skool project.

Rachael Leonard, the school’s acting head teacher, said: “These packs will help so many of our students and we couldn’t be more grateful to Grant and the team’s tremendous effort in purchasing, preparing and delivering so much great, useful equipment. .

“It will be really put to good use.”
