Haynes Solar awarded 6-MW construction portfolio for area around Asheville, North Carolina

Haynes Solar, a division of MB Haynes, has been contracted for the largest portfolio of solar projects in Buncombe County, North Carolina. The 43 projects consist of four for the city of Asheville and 39 for the county. Locations include schools, fire stations, government offices, parking decks and libraries, as well as five installations at Asheville-Buncombe Technical Community College.

“Buncombe County is proud to partner with a great local company such as MB Haynes to engineer, procure and construct this groundbreaking renewable energy project. This project will not only save county taxpayers millions in energy costs, but will also help us accelerate the transition to clean, renewable energy,” said Brownie Newman, chairman of the Buncombe County Commission.

The 6.06 MW portfolio should be completed by the end of 2023, although Haynes Solar aims to complete it earlier.

“When Mr. Haynes started his electrical business 100 years ago, I don’t think he could have imagined that one day we would get electrical energy from the sun,” said Fred Lewis, president and CEO of MB Haynes. “We have long-term success because we are not stuck in the past. Throughout our century of service, we have been at the cutting edge of electrical technology. We are thrilled to have this opportunity to make a long-lasting positive impact on the community we call home.”
