How to Build Shingle Roofs
If you’re having trouble finding out how to build Valheim shingle roofs and dark wood buildings, you are probably far from alone. After all, these new building blocks were just added in the Hearth and House update, so it takes time to get to know the way. In addition, clapboards and dark wood buildings generally require a special new material to make. With all that said, let’s get started.
How to build Valheim Shingle Roofs – Darkwood Building
To build shingle roofs and shingles in general in Valheim, you need to master dark wood building. To do that, the first step is figuring out how to make dark wood in the first place. The first step on that journey is collecting tar. We go into that in more detail in our How to Get Tar guide, but here’s a quick rundown. Basically, you just have to explore the plains biome until you find a tar pit. From there you can collect tar from the growth enemies that jump out of the pit, collect it around the edges of the pool and empty the pit to find even more tar blobs. It seems easy, but it really isn’t, especially since growth is tricky to control, as is emptying the tar pools.
Once you have tar, you only need two basic pieces of wood and one tar to build one roof segment, be it the ridge of the roof or something else. This is how you build Valheim shingle roofs and make buildings from dark wood in general – all you need is tar and wood. It’s not too difficult in the grand scheme of things, but that’s a very relative term in this game. Speaking of which, if there’s anything else bothering you about Hearth and Home content, check out some of our other guides. To name a few, we’ve written where to find onions, where to place a spice rack, and how to get Crystal Battleaxe.
