(KNZA) – A Doniphan County roofer has been temporarily banned from performing roofing services in Kansas and must pay more than $ 6,700 in refunds after being found to be in violation of consumer protection laws.
Kansas Attorney General Derek Schmidt said in a press release Wednesday that Rocky Murry, of Troy, who does business as Murry 66, had been ordered to pay back a Doniphan County consumer $ 6,760. He was also temporarily banned from working as a roofer in Kansas until he obtained a roofer registration certificate from the Attorney General, as required by law.
District Judge Jim Patton issued a default judgment this week after Murry failed to respond to a lawsuit filed in Doniphan County District Court in April. Murry was also ordered to pay a $ 90,000 civil fine.
Schmidt had claimed that Murry accepted a consumer’s payment for roofing services but did not complete the project, leaving it partially completed and without shingles. Schmidt said Murry also reportedly had not registered as a roofer with the attorney general’s office, as required by law.
