Thieves strip copper sheeting from Pietermaritzburg City Hall’s roofing
Thieves have targeted the copper sheets of the roof of the Pietermaritzburg Town Hall.
Msunduzi Municipality is still considering stepping up security at Pietermaritzburg Town Hall to stop the theft of the copper sheets from the roof.
City manager Madoda Khathide revealed yesterday that they had considered adding private security to ensure the roof was no longer vandalized. He said the use of a private security company was mooted as the city sought to tackle the crime at the town hall.
However, Khathide said they came back from this after it was decided to only use the city’s security at City Hall. Khathide admitted that security at City Hall was lax. This despite the tense atmosphere created by the upcoming municipal elections in November.
