Two brothers injured in roofing construction accident Friday afternoon

STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) — Two brothers were injured in a roofing accident Friday afternoon in Starkville.

The incident happened around 2 a.m. at the Aldersgate United Methodist Church.

Starkville Fire Chief Charles Yarbrough says the men were part of a crew replacing a church roof.

An elevator they were using has fallen over.

One of the men was thrown from the bucket onto the elevator and was injured.

The other man was driving the elevator. His legs and one arm were trapped under the machine.

Bulldog Towing and Starkville Utilities assisted in the rescue because a lot of manpower was needed to make the rescue possible.

“It probably took about 30 to 40 people to get him out. So we had to get a lot of minds together, heads together to figure this out. We thank God we got him out,” Chief Yarbrough said.

Yarbrough tells WCBI that the driver flew to a Tupelo hospital.

The other victim was taken to the OCH Regional Medical Center.
