Urban Electric Power’s alkaline battery completes thermal runaway testing

Energy storage company Urban Electric Power announced that its alkaline battery has completed UL 9540A thermal runaway testing. An independent testing lab reported that “thermal runaway was not achieved” by UEP’s zinc-manganese dioxide battery cells.

The chemistry of Urban Electric Power was invented at the City College of New York and is on track to be approved for installations in dense urban environments.

The company claims that its batteries are cheaper than lithium-ion for all markets and applications. They are non-toxic and take up half the space of lead-acid batteries of comparable rating.

The report of the independent testing laboratory is available to the company upon request.
