The Whelen Modified Tour returns to Stafford Speedway for their second of three visits during the 2021 season on Friday, August 6.e for the 30e Annual GAF Roofing 150. Thanks to the King Family and Ramar-Hall, WMT drivers will race for more than $2,000 in bonus money with payouts for unique achievements that will celebrate the life of former WMT car owner Don King, who passed away in early June after the fight against bone cancer.

The winner of the GAF Roofing 150 will receive a $1,280 bonus, while the round 28 leader, the 28e finish in place, and the youngest driver to finish the race in the top-10 will each receive a $280 bonus, equating to a total of $2,120 in bonus money.

“We decided to do this at Stafford for several reasons,” said Christie King, daughter of Don King. “My father had several cars in different divisions over the years, but he really liked the Modified Tour and Stafford was the main track where my father raced before he started the Modified Tour. We wanted to do amounts and performance equivalent to 28, obviously because that was his car number.”

King gave several drivers their first taste of life on the Whelen Modified Tour with drivers like Jamie Asklar, Doug Coby, Tyler Haydt, James Civali and Woody Pitkat all driving King’s #28 car before veteran Ed Flemke, Jr. drove the car.

“One of our biggest things was to get an award for the youngest driver, because my father was always ready to give a young driver a chance,” King continued. “Whether in racing or in life, my dad was always trying to give someone an opportunity that they might not be able to get themselves. It will be a day full of mixed feelings for us. We will have over 50 family and friends as well as some old crew members from the #28 car coming to the race so it will be like a reunion and I am sure we will all be watching and keeping track of who wins each prize . It’s going to be a lot of fun and I think this is something my dad would have really enjoyed.”

The 30th Annual GAF Roofing 150 is scheduled for this Friday, August 6. Stafford’s SK Modified®, Late Model, SK Light, Limited Late Model and Street Stock divisions will participate in the Whelen Modified Tour in feature action.
